Kristin Laemmert bfd66083de helper/schema: don't skip deprecation check during validation
If an attribute was not wholly known, helper/schema was skipping the
`validateType` function which (among other things) returned deprecation
messages. This PR checks for deprecation before returning when skipping
validateType.

James Bardin 016c4f782d don't reflect nil in schema validation
Nil values were not previously expected during validation, but they can
appear in some situations with the new protocol. Add checks to prevent
using zero reflect.Values.

Martin Atkins 1c8150428f helper/schema: Schema.AsSingle flag
This setting indicates that an attribute defined as TypeList or TypeSet
should be presented to Terraform Core as a single value instead when
running in Terraform v0.12 or later. It has no effect for Terraform v0.10
or v0.11.

This commit just introduces the setting without any associated behavior,
so it can be included in both the v0.12 and v0.11 branches. A subsequent
commit only to the v0.12 branch will introduce the behavior as part of
the protocol version 5 shims.

Martin Atkins a6d322edec helper/schema: ConfigMode field in *Schema
This allows a provider developer slightly more control over how an SDK
schema is mapped into the Terraform configuration language, overriding
some default assumptions.

ConfigMode overrides the default assumption that a schema with
an Elem of type *Resource is to be mapped to configuration as a nested
block, allowing mapping as an attribute containing an object type instead.

These behaviors only apply when a provider is being used with Terraform
v0.12 or later. They are ignored altogether in Terraform v0.11 mode, to
preserve compatibility. We are adding these primarily to allow the v0.12
version of a resource type schema to be specified to match the prevailing
usage of it in existing configurations, in situations where the default
mapping to v0.12 concepts is not appropriate.

This commit adds only the fields themselves and the InternalValidate rules
for them. A subsequent commit for Terraform v0.12 will add the behavior
as part of the protocol version 5 shim layer.

Martin Atkins 06acc3f6c8 helper/schema: Skip validation of unknown values
With the introduction of explicit "null" in 0.12 it's possible for a value
that is unknown during plan to become a known null during apply, so we
need to slightly weaken our validation rules to accommodate that, in
particular skipping the validation of conflicting attributes if the result
could potentially be valid after the unknown values become known.

This change is in the codepath that is common to both 0.12 and 0.11
callers, but that's safe because 0.11 re-runs validation during the apply
step and so will still catch problems here, albeit in the apply step
rather than in the plan step, thus matching the 0.12 behavior. This new
behavior is a superset of the old in the sense that everything that was
valid before is still valid.

The implementation here also causes us to skip all other validation for
an attribute whose value is unknown. Most of the downstream validation
functions handle this directly anyway, but again this doesn't add any new
failure cases, and should clean up some of the rough edges we've seen with
unknown values in 0.11 once people upgrade to 0.12-compatible providers.
Any issues we now short-circuit during planning will still be caught
during apply.

While working on this I found that the existing "Not a list" test was not
actually testing the correct behavior, so this also includes a tweak to
that to ensure that it really is checking the "should be a list" path
rather than the "cannot be set" codepath it was inadvertently testing
before.

helper/schema: Always propagate NewComputed for previously zero value primative type attributes
When the following conditions were met:
* Schema attribute with a primative type (e.g. Type: TypeString) and Computed: true
* Old state of attribute set to zero value for type (e.g. "")
* Old state ID of resource set to non-empty (e.g. existing resource)

Attempting to use CustomizeDiff with SetNewComputed() would result in the difference  previously being discarded. This update ensures that previous zero values or resource existence does not influence the propagation of the computed update.

James Bardin 46b4c27dbe create a SimpleDiff for the new provider shims
Terraform now handles any actual "diffing" of resource, and the existing
Diff functions are only used to shim the schema.Provider to the new
methods. Since terraform is handling what used to be the Diff, the
provider now should not modify the diff based on RequiresNew due to it
interfering with the ignore_changes handling.

Fix drift caused from gofmt when running make dev and go 1.11.
A fresh checkout of `origin/master` does not build atm using the `dev`
target because `master` has not been formatted using `gofmt` from Go
1.11 (tis has been the case for a while if you've been running devel).

None of the drift in question is especially new but now that Go 1.11
has been released and gofmt's formatting guidelines have been updated,
it would be *really* nice if the code in `master` reflected the current
tooling in order to avoid having to fight this drift locally.

helper/schema: ResourceDiff ForceNew attribute correctness
A couple of bugs have been discovered in ResourceDiff.ForceNew:

* NewRemoved is not preserved when a diff for a key is already present.
This is because the second diff that happens after customization
performs a second getChange on not just state and config, but also on
the pre-existing diff. This results in Exists == true, meaning nil is
never returned as a new value.
* ForceNew was doing the work of adding the key to the list of changed
keys by doing a full SetNew on the existing value. This has a side
effect of fetching zero values from what were otherwise undefined values
and creating diffs for these values where there should not have been
(example: "" => "0").

This update fixes these scenarios by:

* Adding a new private function to check the existing diff for
NewRemoved keys. This is included in the check on new values in
diffChange.
* Keys that have been flagged as ForceNew (or parent keys of lists and
sets that have been flagged as ForceNew) are now maintained in a
separate map. UpdatedKeys now returns the results of both of these maps,
but otherwise these keys are ignored by ResourceDiff.
* Pursuant the above, values are no longer pushed into the newDiff
writer by ForceNew. This prevents the zero value problem, and makes for
a cleaner implementation where the provider has to "manually" SetNew to
update the appropriate values in the writer. It also prevents
non-computed keys from winding up in the diff, which ResourceDiff
normally blocks by design.

There are also a couple of tests for cases that should never come up
right now involving Optional/Computed values and NewRemoved, for which
explanations are given in annotations of each test. These are here to
guard against future regressions.

James McGill 035d56409f helper/schema: handle TypeMap elem consistently with other collection types
For historical reasons, the handling of element types for maps is inconsistent with other collection types.

Here we begin a multi-step process to make it consistent, starting by supporting both the "consistent" form of using a schema.Schema and an existing erroneous form of using a schema.Type directly. In subsequent commits we will phase out the erroneous form and require the schema.Schema approach, the same as we do for TypeList and TypeSet.

the associated test need to be removed as soon as we can support unset
fields from the config, so we don't continue to carry this broken
behavior forward any longer than needed.

Chris Marchesi ee769188d7 helper/schema: More CustomizeDiff test cases
Added a few more test cases for CustomizeDiff, caught another error in
the process. I think this is ready for review now, and possibly some
real-world testing of the waters by way of porting some resources that
would benefit from the feature.

Chris Marchesi 8af9610b87 helper/schema: Hook CustomizeDiffFunc into diff logic
It's alive! CustomizeDiff logic now has been inserted into the diff
process. The test_resource_with_custom_diff resource provides some basic
testing and a reference implementation.

There should now be plenty of test coverage for this feature via the
tests added for ResourceDiff, and the basic test added to the
schemaMap.Diff test, and the test resource, but more can be added to
test any specific case that comes up otherwise.

James Bardin 6bc52be0a5 check for IsComputed when validating a schema obj
GH-14784 allowed nested structures to be validate, rather than relying
on the raw value. However this still returns the same validation error
if the structures contain a computed value, since Get will return the
raw string in that case.

This simply skips the validation in the IsComputed case, since there's
nothing that can be checked.

Matt Robenolt b9a3433f6b helper/schema: fix validating nested objects
When interpreting a nested object, we were validating against the "raw"
value, and not the interpolated value, causing incorrect errors.

This affects structures such as:

```tf
tags = "${list(map("foo", "bar"))}"
```

Prior to this, a complaint about "expected object, got string" since the
raw value is obviously a string, when the interpolated value is the
correct shape.

James Bardin caadb4297f make sure a computed list is can be RequiresNew
If a schema.TypeList had a Schema with ForceNew, and if that list was
NewComputed, the diff would not have RequiresNew set. This causes apply
to fail when the diffs didn't match because of the change to
RequiresNew.

Set the RequiresNew field on the list's ResourceAttrDiff based on the
Schema value.

flatmap: mark computed list as a computed value in Expand
Fixes #12183

The fix is in flatmap for this but the entire issue is a bit more
complex. Given a schema with a computed set, if you reference it like
this:

    lookup(attr[0], "field")

And "attr" contains a computed set within it, it would panic even though
"field" is available. There were a couple avenues I could've taken to
fix this:

1.) Any complex value containing any unknown value at any point is
entirely unknown.

2.) Only the specific part of the complex value is unknown.

I took route 2 so that the above works without any computed (since
"name" is not computed but something else is). This may actually have an
effect on other parts of Terraform configs, however those similar
configs would've simply crashed previously so it shouldn't break any
pre-existing configs.

Chris Marchesi f258056731 core: Tests for hasComputedSubKeys fix
This covers:

 * Complex sets with computed fields in a set
 * Complex lists with computed fields in a set

Adding a test to test basic lists with computed fields seemed to fail,
but possibly for an unrelated reason (the list returned as nil). The fix
to this inparticular case may be out of the scope of this specific
issue.

Reference gist and details in hashicorp/terraform#9171.

helper/schema: mark diff as forcenew if element is computed
Fixes #10125

If the elements are computed and the field is ForceNew, then we should
mark the computed count as potentially forcing a new operation.

Example, assuming `groups` forces new...

**Step 1:**

    groups = ["1", "2", "3"]

At this point, the resource isn't create, so this should result in a
diff like:

    CREATE resource:
      groups: "" => ["1", "2", "3"]

**Step 2:**

    groups = ["${computedvar}"]

The OLD behavior was:

    UPDATE resource
      groups.#: "3" => "computed"

This would cause a diff mismatch because if `${computedvar}` was
different then it should force new. The NEW behavior is:

    DESTROY/CREATE resource:
      groups.#: "3" => "computed" (forces new)

helper/schema: only mark "ForceNew" on resources that cause the ForceNew
Fixes #2748

This changes the diff to only mark "forces new resource" on the fields
that actually caused the new resource, not every field that changed.
This makes diffs much more accurate.

I'd like to request a review but I'm going to defer merging until
Terraform 0.8. Changes like this are very possible to cause "diffs
didn't match" errors and I want some real world testing in a beta before
we hit prod with this.

Fixes #7715

If a bool field was computed and the raw value was not convertable to a
boolean, helper/schema would crash. The correct behavior is to try not
to read the raw value when the value is computed and to simply mark that
it is computed. This does that (and matches the behavior of the other
primitives).
